Kaiya Brooks, a senior at Crystal Springs Uplands, won the Division 5 girls title at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. Brooks covered the 5-kilometer layout in 17:54.2 to become the first athlete in school history to secure an individual state title in any sport. Brooks, a three-time all-state honoree after placing fourth in 2019 and fifth last year, also helped Crystal Springs Uplands win its first state team championship in school history with a 129-131 victory against San Francisco University.
